With the existing Barlaston WI meeting on a weekday afternoon, it became apparent that there was a need for an evening group for those local women that work or have families to care for.
There were enough interested women at the initial meeting to go ahead and on 20th February 2013 the group was offically formed, and the first speakers organised. We had silk scarf decorating, relaxation, belly dancing, willow weaving and much more.
By the summer we have 20 members and decide to hold our first fundraiser. We run a sucessful WI Cake stall at the local Cricket Club Fete and are pleased with the number of members who choose to get involved. Many yummy cakes are baked and all were sold.
We discover that a number of our members enjoy knitting and so the "Knit and Natter" group is formed, meeting once a month at the local pub to do just that!
A number of members are regualrly involved in our yarnbombing projects around our village. We were so proud of our rememberance poppies that received national coverage via the internet and local press too.
Now with growing numbers of members we are moving onto our programme for next year.
Why should you join!
We are just a bunch of like minded women of all ages and different backgrounds making new friends and trying new things. Oh and having fun at the same time! Every meeting is different so don't just come once, you can visit three times before you make a decision as to whether to join us. We just need a little donation of £3 for you to try us out. We hope to see you at the next meeting!
